Drug addiction
1/25/2021 11:18:39 PM
The drug addiction among the youngsters in Jammu and Kashmir has rattled the entire society. People are asking themselves what could be done to end this rampant substance abuse as it’s a major cause of concern.
Experts are of the opinion that the substance abuse could be one of the reasons for young people dying of heart attacks in J&K. And it needs to be investigated further. In the recent past many youngsters have died suddenly after suffering massive heart attacks.
It’s unfortunate that the substances that can be abused by the youngsters are easily available in the open market. The law enforcing agencies keep on claiming that they have launched a massive drive to check the drug addiction but the fact remains that drug peddlers are calling the shots and are openly selling this poison in the market. This needs to be checked. Nothing can be done till stern action is taken against the drug peddlers and the drug dealers.
The society has an important role to play. The committees have to be formed in mohallas to keep a vigil over drug peddlers and the youth who indulge in substance abuse. A collective effort is needed to end this menace that’s ruining our society.
We have to investigate the reasons that are pushing youth towards the substance abuse. In the recent past there have been a few cases about youth after getting intoxicated losing senses and indulging in altercations. In a few cases the situation has taken an ugly turn which has even led to murders.
Army have set up many drug de-addiction centers across J&K and these institutions have helped many youth to give up drugs and return to their normal lives. This problem needs to be nipped in the bud.
A system needs to be put in place to ensure that the drug peddlers are kept away from the educational institutions and the places that are thronged by the young people.
The onus lies on the law enforcing agencies to act swiftly against the criminals, who are out to kill the youngsters. Police and other agencies need to put their act together and launch a massive crackdown against these poison sellers.
In the recent past it has been noticed that Pakistan is trying to send in more and more drugs into J&K to finance terrorism as the hawala channels have been choked. So lot needs to be done on many fronts to end the drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir.
