It was decided in a special meeting of the club chaired by patron of the club Ashwani Sharma, former MLA. Prominent among others who attended the crucial meeting included Advisor of the club, Prof. Lalit Magotra; Co Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, President Ram Khajuria, Vice President Mridhu Padha, Vivek Chauhan, Sumit Khajuria, Sushil Singh, Kamal Kumar, Sakshi Magotra and Sonam Sidharth. Since most of the past as well as the current mountaineers of Jammu who have scaled the Everest are almost unknown to their own people of Jammu, the purpose of honoring these heroes in a function is to make the present generation aware of their outstanding achievements and contribution to the promotion of mountaineering in the country and the laurels they have brought to Jammu. It is pertinent to mention here that out of a total of 488 Indian nationals who have climbed Everest so far , Jammu has a fair share of 11 Everest summiteers. Whereas C. P Vohra who retired as Director General Geological Survey of India was the first mountaineer of Jammu to climb Everest in the year 1965,the second Everester of Jammu Rajiv Sharma who retired as Deputy Director of Atal Behari Bajpai Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports Manali, scaled Everest in 1993, 28 years after C P Vohra's grand feat. Similarly, it was after a gap of 15 years that Ram Singh now inspector in J&K Police scaled Everest in 2008. Col. Ranbir Singh Jamwal climbed Everest thrice in 2012, 2013 and 2016 and went on to scale the highest peaks of all the continents. This was a rare feat which requires to be recognized and honored by whole of the country , especially the people of Jammu, he being Son of the soil. Similarly, the year 2017 witnessed an Everest boom when 3 climbers of Jammu Sandeep Singh, Nirmal Kumar and Rahul Jarangal were successful in scaling the Everest. Then Sangeeta Bahl scaled Everest in 2018 and became the oldest Indian woman to scale Everest at the age of 53 years. She also belongs to Jammu. In between there were two defense personnel from Jammu who also scaled Everest. And finally, we have Phalail Singh from J&K Police who scaled Everest in 2019.
