Traffic Police Jammu launches drive against pressure, multi tone horns

JAMMU, Feb 8: Traffic Police City Jammu on Monday conducted a drive to check the use of multi-tone horns/ pressure horns on vehicles and ear-splitting-sound-producing on motor vehicles at Nagrota, RS Pura, Akhnoor etc.
A team of Traffic Police comprising DySP Traffic City Rural Neeraj Padyar, which is sub-divided into three different teams led by DTI Nagrota Inspr Rakesh Kumar, DTI RS Pura Inspr Satvir Singh & DTI Akhnoor Inspr Kuljeet Singh under the supervisions of ASP Traffic Jammu Sh Pardeep Singh Gouria JKPS, On the occasion, Number of Challans were issued for violating noise pollution rules.
This drive was simultaneously conducted in several areas including Nagrota Bypass, RS Pura & Akhnoor etc.
Some of the motorists were also seen having heated argument with Traffic Police, but their efforts to evade fine went in vain.
The Motor Vehicle Act 1988, does not allow use Siren/Pressure horn on any vehicle, except Ambulance, Fire brigade and Police. "Use of Siren/Pressure horns violates the standards prescribed in relation to control of Noise. This Offence is punishable U/s 190(2) of MV Act," said ADGP Traffic T Namgyal.
The team appealed to the owners of heavy and light vehicles to stop using pressure horns in their vehicles as it causes a lot of noise pollution. They said strict action would be taken against the erring vehicles owners who were found violating the laws.
The drive was carried out on the directions of ADGP Traffic J&K T Namgyal and SSP Traffic Jammu Shiv Kumar.
