2/24/2021 11:46:56 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 24: Congress today announced to intensify the agitational programme through the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir against the government's "Tax Terrorism" by organizing series of protests, dharnas and arrests to create movement for seeking roll back of unprecedented taxes by the centre govt and UT administration.
This was announced here today by the JKPCC Chief G A Mir in a convention of the party in which prominent office bearers of the PCC, District Congress committees, DDC members and candidates besides leaders of frontal wings of the party attended from various districts of Jammu province. A schedule of protest demonstrations was chalked out for different areas of all districts in which people as well workers and senior leader s shall attend.
JKPCC Chief while briefing the media on the sidelines of the convention disclosed the schedule of protests upto 30th March, stating that the party units are already protests but it shall be expanded and intensified throughout the Jammu province and Kashmir valley in coming days.
Earlier addressing the gathering of prominent leaders, Mir said that the government has let loose a reign of terror by imposing heavy taxes of various kinds and the common man is unable to manage his livelihood and day today needs. The BJP government came to power with the slogan of achhe din but has gifted hard days with unprecedented price hike, rising unemployment, anti-farmers and anti-youth policies and record high taxes.
He said that the government is earning out of the miseries of the people who are made to pay from their nose. Each and every section is sufferings because of the economic policies of the BJP government which has brought the economy to the lowest levels since independence and bringing the common people to the knees.
He said that Congress would organize series of protests to draw the attention of the government to the hardships faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir who are more distressed economically due to multiple disturbances in the recent years but have been overburdened with multiple taxes including toll taxes, Road taxes, hike in power and water taxes, hike in registration fee, stamp duty and now property tax.
He called upon people to rise against the insensitive and indifferent govt fleecing people in the name of taxes.
