JAMMU, Feb 25: Seeking adequate compensation for the family of Mashqoor Ahmed, a 32 year old youth, who died last week after having been administered expired doze of ‘RiddoF’ injection by medical staff in Dudu Basantgarh area of Ramnagar constituency in District Udahmpur, Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister further questioned the non-initiation of any action against the delinquent officials of the Deptt despite the matter having been brought to the notice of Health Deptt as well as District administration.
It was most shocking that the matter was being pushed under the carpet by the local administration and the poor family of the victim pressurized not to highlight the issue, regretted Singh.
Not only the present case of medical delinquency needed immediate attention of the authorities concerned but regretfully the last month’s episode where a minor child of village Bari of Ramnagar named Babbu aged 2 years was taken seriously ill after having been given expired medicines by the local medical staff was also taken non seriously by the Health Deptt with no action whatsoever taken against the delinquent official, divulged the NPP Chairman. It is further worthwhile to mention that two years back more than 12 children had died in Ramnagar after having consumed expired and spurious drugs with none having been taken to task till date, bemoaned Singh.
Alleging collapse of Health care system in Ramnagar and eruption of quacks with sale of spurious drugs having become common in the area, Singh strongly condemned the highly apathetic and criminally negligent approach of the Health Deptt in addressing the situation.
He asserted that the Basantgarh case was nothing short of ‘culpable homicide’ and Bari episode could be aptly described as “attempt to murder” as the child has still not fully recovered from adverse reaction of the spurious drugs administered to him. And while the people of the said areas besides other affected areas of Ramnagar suffering Health related issues continue to protest on regular basis, the Deptt concerned and local administration have preferred to remain as mute spectators with no action taken to deal with the health emergency prevailing in Ramnagar. Seeking the personal indulgence of the Lt Governor, Singh demanded immediate remedial measures to save precious lives in the area and further appropriate action to stem the rot.
