Step Towards Streamlining Education
2/25/2021 11:29:15 PM

Recently administration in Rajouri district issued an order asking the teachers working in government schools in the area to get their attendance certificates signed by sarpanchs.
The order stated that attendance certificates are a must for the salaries to be released. The order had evoked criticism from teachers and they had termed it arbitrary. They had stated that it has put a question mark on the credibility of the teacher community.
It appears that administration has involved sarpanchs to ensure that students from poor families don't suffer. After the outbreak of COVID-19 last year the entire education system went haywire as the schools remained closed for nearly a year. Students suffered immensely due to the closure of schools. It could be a step towards streamlining the functioning of these institutions.
Teachers being asked to get the attendance certificates signed by sarpanchs sounds a bit awkward but it can help in the long run as it will help in identifying the black sheep the teachers who have brought a bad name to the entire community by shredding their responsibility. One can understand that teachers have not liked the move but they should prove their sincerity and dedication by their work. They are nation builders and torchbearers of the country.
Sarpanchs who have been asked to sign the attendance certificates of the teachers should ensure that they don't show any arrogance and give them the respect they deserve.
The step taken by the Rajouri administration can prove helpful in other parts of the union territory if the experiment works. No one can deny the fact that schools build the base of children. If the students are taught properly from a tender age they become more bright and intelligent. Schooling matters and it's the teachers who make the lives of students interesting and colorful.
Students in far flung areas don't belong to elite families; they mostly come from a poor family background. They need to be guided and shown the right path. Teachers play an important role in the lives of children, especially the ones who are from not that affluent background. In rural areas the responsibility of the teachers increases manifolds, they should not feel bad if they have been asked to get the confirmation of their attendance from the sarpanchs. Everyone is aware of the fact that most of the teachers are honest, sincere and dedicated. There are only a few among them who have to be identified and taken care of.
