Top army officers of India and Pakistan agreeing to a ceasefire along the Line of Control has come as a surprise.
The truce was announced a few weeks after Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had expressed his country's desire for "peaceful co-existence." General Bajwa after talking about war has had a sudden change of heart.
Pakistan has agreed to a ceasefire but it remains to be seen whether it's just a gimmick or our neighbor really wants to give peace a chance. One hopes that there is no backstabbing this time around. History stands testimony to the fact that there is a lot of difference between Pakistan's "kathni" and "karni."
This time around the peace offer has come from the Pakistan Army so there is a possibility about it being authentic as Pakistan is run by the army and not the politicians, who are just puppets.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently informed the Parliament that 4649 ceasefire violations were witnessed last year and many civilians and personnel of the security forces were killed on this side. Pakistan, on the other hand had claimed that nearly 3000 ceasefire violations occurred last year in which several people were killed while nearly two hundred civilians sustained injuries. The LoC remaining hot has taken a heavy toll on both the sides. If the ceasefire holds good it will be a big relief for the people, especially the ones living in frontier areas.
But Pakistan needs to bear it in mind that if it really wants to give peace a chance then it has to stop supporting cross border terrorism and give up its obsession with Jammu and Kashmir. The helmsmen in the neighboring country should understand that J&K is an integral part of India and no power on earth can snatch it.
The ceasefire is okay but Indian Army cannot lower the guard as the past experiences with our neighbor have been bitter. The truce can hold good, if Pakistan shows sincerity and dismantles the terror infrastructure which has been grown during the past years. The militants sent by Pakistan into this side have been bleeding us before getting killed but the infiltration needs to stop before things move forward. The ceasefire along the LoC is a good beginning. But time only will decide whether the peace initiative will survive or not.
