Two LeT associates arrested, arms and ammunition recovered

BANDIPORA, Feb 26: Police have arrested two militant associates linked with LeT and recovered incriminating materials from their possession in this North Kashmir district, while three youth have been arrested when they were on way to cross LoC in Kupwara.
A top police official said that acting on specific inputs, Bandipora police along with 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 45 BN CRPF apprehended two militant associates of Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) in a joint operation at Bonikhan Mohalla, of Hajin village.
The official said that they have been identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Khan, and Riyaz Ahmad Bhat.
“During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that both the arrested militant associates were providing shelter, logistics and other material support to active militants of LeT in Sumbal and Hajin areas of district Bandipora”, the police official said.
He said that arms and ammunition including two live grenades and eight live rounds of AK-47 have been recovered from their possession.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR 16/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Hajin and further investigation has been taken up. Meanwhile it is also learnt that three youth were arrested allegedly in pursuit of crossing over to the Line of Control (LoC) for arms training in Kupwara district.
Following specific information about it, police arrested the trio, all in their 20s.
“They had established a contact with a militant commander in Pakistan and were on their way to cross the LoC via Kupwara to meet him,” said sources while quoting the official.
According to them, the trio has been identified as Mohammad Rameez Rather 27, Aijaz Ahmad sofi 27 (both are mechanic by profession), and Javid Ahmad Rather (22) all residents of Kupwara.
Police have registered a case (FIR no 48/2021) at police station Kupwara under relevant sections of law and started further investigation, the official added.
