EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 26: Several people including few women were injured in an ugly brawl between two groups over a land dispute, which took place in the premises of Tehsil Office Akhnoor, where all revenue officials including police personnel were present.
Astonishingly, the police didn’t show seriousness to register FIR against the accused and delayed it due to alleged pressure from another police official, who happens to be brother of the main accused but when matter reaches the SSP Jammu and District Administration Jammu, only then the police lodged FIR. The injured persons, while talking to media informed that they were attacked by the Shubham Pawar along with his brothers and some goons in the Tehsil Office Akhnoor where SDM Akhnoor, concerned Tehsildar and other officials were present but nobody intervened to stop the fight. During this fight an elderly woman along with other family members were injured, who received serious injuries during the violent fight. They were taken to hospital for emergency treatment after which they moved to Ludhiana for advance treatment due to head injuries. But shockingly in this episode, the police as well as the local administration acted as mute spectators and didn’t take swift action despite being the witness of the entire incident, they alleged. When Early Times contacted the DySP Akhnoor in this connection, he informed that FIR has been lodged against the accused but when the official was asked with regard to delay in taking prompt action, he refused to comment on it.
SSP Jammu, Shridhar Patil, when contacted, assured that he would inquire the matter and strict action will be taken against the accused.
