Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 26: In contrary to Government order- banning the extension in services or re-employment of retired employees-, the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) has moved a proposal for granting extension to the services of an engineer who is retiring on 28th of this month.
According to documents available with Early Times SGM (Civil) has moved the proposal and sought extension to the services of General Manager (Civil) for one year.
The proposal has passed through many desks and is now about to reach the office of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan for approval.
In his proposal, the Senior General Manager (Civil) claims that they require the services of General Manager (Civil) In-Charge Executive Engineer for tendering and awarding of PMDP projects besides the engineer is required to assist the Power Development Corporation in Hon'ble Supreme Court where it is fighting legal battle with private firm.
"The officer is presently handling important assignments including Civil O&M and Capital Works of BHEP-I and II & 9MW sewa HEP and Chenani HEP-I, II, III," reads the proposal.
The engineer, who is a diploma holder, is basically an Asstt. Executive Engineer (AEE) of erstwhile state's Power Development Department (PDD). Later he was deputed 'temporarily' in JKPDC as executive engineer.
The PDC employees have now written to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Singh requesting him to intervene into the matter and don't allow re-employment or extension of services.
They claim that the engineer does not want to leave the corporation nor do his unknown mentors want to see him retire.
"JKPDCL has written to the Government that the officer is handling some important projects. Does that mean there is none other than him in the corporation who can handle those projects?" they said, adding that the erstwhile state government had banned giving extension in the services of Officials or re-employing them after retirement.
Er Naresh Kumar, Executive Director (Civil) JKSPDC confirmed to Early Times that they have moved the proposal. "Yes we have moved the proposal but it is ultimately the Government which has to take the decision," he said.
He however declined to provide further details and reasons for moving such a proposal. "I can't elaborate it to you over the phone," he said on being asked why they are demanding extension to the services of an engineer who is retiring this month.
