Azad Sets Ball Rolling
3/1/2021 11:21:26 PM
Former J&K chief minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad after being sidelined by the party high command has made his intentions clear. He is ready to take on Rahul Gandhi.
Azad recently completed his tenure in Rajya Sabha and many people were expecting that he will be nominated by the Congress Party from Gujarat RS seat, which had fallen vacant after the death of the veteran Congress leader, Ahmed Patel. But it didn't happen.
Azad was sidelined by the party leadership after he along with 20 other seniors wrote a letter to the party high command to look for a new leader, who can steer the party out of the troubled waters. However, the move backfired as the party pushed Azad and others to the fence. They were stripped of party posts for raising their voice against Gandhi family.
Azad has been patient for a longtime but it seems that now he has lost his patience. On Sunday he praised Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for not forgetting his routes. When Azad was about to complete his term in Rajya Sabha, PM Modi had showered praise on Azad and had described him as an exemplary politician.
It appears that Azad has decided to take on Rahul Gandhi as his supporters recently stated that he (Azad) is the best bet for the next chief of All India Congress Committee (AICC).
PM Modi praising Azad and the senior Congress leader reciprocating the gesture is an indication that Azad is getting the support from every side.
Rahul Gandhi as a leader as failed to pull out the Congress Party from the crisis. In fact not many people believe that he is a strong leader. The lobby in the Congress that is supporting Gandhis seems to be shrinking with each passing day.
Massive defeats faced by the Congress Party in 2014 and 2019 general elections have pushed the "Grand Old Party" of the country to brink. Rahul despite being given complete charge in 2019 failed to deliver as the Congress Party had to bite the dust across the country.
The party is in a desperate need for a leader, who can revive it and Azad could be the perfect man, who can bring the disgruntled leaders of the party together and challenge Gandhi family's hegemony.
