Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 4: Taranjit Singh Tony, District Development Council, Member, Block Suchetgarh, met Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and discussed several issues related to the development and upliftment of people residing border areas.
The DDC member apprised the Lt Governor about the present location of the Tehsil Suchetgarh which is on the shelling area and also does not fall in the Centre of Suchetgarh constituency. He said that the people are the worst sufferers due to the present location of the Tehsil and lack of non transport facility. He asserted that it is a long pending and genuine demand of the people of Suchetgarh to shift the present Tehsil office at S.D.M. Complex which is considered to be a safe and most convenient place for the people of the area.
The DDC members also raised serious concern about restoration of irrigation system of agricultural land in Suchetgarh Constituency especially at the tail-end on the border of Indo-Pak. He said that the present lift irrigation system is totally defunct especially at the tail end i.e, Sai Area. “Tubewells those are defunct and are beyond any repair must be replaced by installation of new tubewells. The canal irrigation system needs an overall re-development of the canal and tributaries as these have been narrowed down to the level of small drains. Due to the totally collapsed irrigation system of all kinds the yield of the crops is badly affected,” he said.
The DDC member urged the Lt Governor to pay his personal visit which will be more beneficial as on spot direction in this regard will address the long pending and burning demand of the farmers will come to an end.
Taranjit Singh Tony also demanded compensation of the agricultural land crop-wise which is not cultivated for the last 20 years due to the faulty fencing and construction of defence bonds on the Zero Line of India Pakistan border. He also appealed to the Lt Governor to waive off stamp duty and registration fees in case of Virasat Intkaal and also of Agricultural land, which is a long pending and burning demand of the farming community.
The DDC member further requested the Lt Governor to take the cognizance of the aforesaid issues so that the farmers may not suffer any more as they have already suffered a lot. The Lt Governor gave a patient hearing to the issues raised by the DDC Member and assured for early redressal of the same.
