Govt fails in proper implementation of NRDWP

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 4: In order to provide better services under the much ambitious National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) with the aim to provide drinking water supply in rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the components of the programme are allegedly not being implemented properly.
The lackadaisical attitude of the Rural Development Department can be gauged from the fact the Block Resource Centers, which were to be set up at all blocks level have not been put in place till date, which have been hampering execution of District Water Sanitation Mission under NRDWP.
Sources in the department told Early Times that Block Resource Centers (BRCs) were to be set up at the block level to provide continuous support in terms of awareness generation, motivation, mobilisation, training and handholding to village communities, Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Gram Panchayat Water and Sanitation Committee / Village Water and Sanitation Committees.
“The Block Resource Centers were to serve as extended delivery arm of the District Water and Sanitation Mission for software support and act as a link between it and the Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Gram Panchayat Water and Sanitation Committee / Village Water and Sanitation Committees / village communities,” they said.
They further said that earlier there was an excuse from the department that due to non holding of panchayat election the BRCs could not be put in place in block levels but now when the panchayats election are over still the department has been lingering on in this matter. Despite repeated attempts, the contacted officials didn’t respond to the calls.
