Freedom House Report is motivated and an assault on our sovereignty: Brig Gupta
3/6/2021 10:53:33 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 6: In its annual report released recently, Washington-based US government-funded NGO Freedom House that studies political freedom around the world, has demoted India's freedom score from "free" to "partly free", saying rights and civil liberties "have been eroding since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014", specifically referring to attacks on Muslims, use of the sedition law, and the government's coronavirus response including the lockdown.
Terming the report as a part of "Imperial manipulation", Anil Gupta spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party, has labelled the report as misleading, incorrect and misplaced.
There are many countries in the world which are jealous of the growing global stature of India under its present leadership. These countries through motivated and manufactured narratives have launched a sinister campaign to undermine Indian democracy and in-house freedom portraying it as a nation being run by an authoritarian regime asserted Gupta.
Ever since the Modi Government has come to power it has followed the policy of SabkaSaath, SabkaVikas and SabkaVishwas. None of the government schemes are religion or caste specific and have universal applications. Despite grave provocations by anti-national and forces inimical to the nation's unity, there have been no major communal riots. Maximum beneficiaries of poverty-alleviating schemes like Ujjawala, Jan Dhan, Ayushman and Mudra have been from the minority communities, said Gupta.
Referring to the government's corona virus response and the lock-down Brig Gupta said the nationwide lockdown was ordered since any mass movement of people would have led to a rapid spread of the disease across the country.
Freedom House is heavily financed by George Soros, an American billionaire investor and known Modi Government hater and is alleged to have financed the anti-CAA protests in 2020.
