Dir Agriculture inspects developmental activities at NVPGH, vegetable demonstration unit

JAMMU, Mar 6: Director Agriculture Production & Farmer Welfare Jammu, Inderjeet today took stock of various field activities being untaken here at Naturally Ventilated Poly Green House (NVPGH) Structures and Vegetable Demonstration Unit at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo.
Different Vegetable, Floral, Ornamental and Medicinal plants are being grown here using latest scientific techniques with the demonstration purpose for visiting farmers from different districts.
Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension), Shahid Iqbal Sheikh; Joint Director (Farms) Rajinder Sharma; Agronomist (Vegetable Improvement Scheme), J. C. Raina; Assistant Botanist, Dr. Ambica Rani; FDA, Rohit Baloria, beside other officers and staff of Vegetable Improvement Scheme were present on the occasion.
The Director Agriculture kick started the harvesting of Peas Vasundara 10 variety grown as intercrop in Summer Apple (Harman-99). The crop of Peas was sown in month of October and has profuse fruiting at present. He also assessed the condition of Yellow (Orobella) and Red (Bombay) Capsicum at NVPGH Structure, where he was also shown Seedless Cucumber crop grown for second time. The first Seedless Cucumber crop has yielded 3 quintals of produce of 4 marlas under protected conditions. Progeny Herbal Garden, where medicinal and herbal plants are being raised under protected conditions was also inspected by the Director.
The Director, while interacting with the officers, stressed on to motivate the farmers to go for the production of exotic and high value vegetables under protected and controlled conditions to get round the year production with high returns. He underlined that to achieve the aim of doubling farmers’ income and attracting the educated unemployed youth towards agriculture entrepreneurship every possible effort should be made to popularize high tech interventions by the department.
Agronomist Vegetables, J. C. Raina, apprised the visiting officers that 7.51 lakh seedlings of different vegetables have been distributed among the farmers after growing under NVPGH structures during current season.
Further, it was given out that 10000 summer flowers seedlings, 2000 cutting of budded rose, besides 250 types of ornamental plants have been raised at Floriculture Development Nursery for distribution and sale to the growers.
