Early Times Report

Rajouri, Mar 6: In sheer violation of guidelines envisaged under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the officials of the Block Development Office Sunderbani in Rajouri district used JCB machine for execution of works in one of the panchayats instead of using the local man force.
Surprisingly, after the matter came to fore the concerned Village Level Worker and Gram Rozgar Sevak contacted the Early Times correspondent urging him not to publicise the issue and asked him to let the work be done from JCB.
The VLW and GRS asked the ET correspondent that due to highlighting of this issue the development work will be stopped but fact of the matter is that using of JCB for road construction is against the guidelines MGNREGA as due to this locals people are deprived of employment.
However, taking note of the issue, the Assistant Commissioner Development Rajouri issued an order No. ACDR/Compl/MGNREGA/2020-21/3498-3500 dated 6-03-2021 to stop the development work. “Although MGNREGA works are primarily for the local poor people of the concerned area to provide them guaranteed employment but here officials of the RDD are violating the norms,” they alleged.
The Block Development Officer Sunderbani Raman Sharma said that there is strict prohibition of utilization of JCB in MGNREGA works and said that action will be taken against the erring officials and payment of the work will be stopped in this case. But interestingly no immediate action was taken against the VLW, GRS under whose work was being executed.
Assistant Commissioner Development Rajouri Sushil Khajuria said that appropriate action will be taken in this matter and he would send an official communication to the BDOs for ensuring adherence to MGNREGA guidelines.
