Imposing property tax: BJP trying to befool innocent people of Jammu
Majority of ULBs in Jammu province are controlled by party

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 6: BJP leadership in J&K is trying to hoodwink gullible residents of Jammu as some of the party's councillors in the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Saturday oppose imposition of property tax.
Pertinent to mention here that it is BJP led JMC which has proposed imposing property tax on the people of Jammu after befooling people in the name of toll tax.
During the meeting of the general house of JMC a couple of BJP councillor opposed the proposal of imposing property tax. Instead of taking up this matter with the party leadership, BJP councillors have opposed this move only before the media just to ‘play to the galleries’.
Reliable sources told The Early Times party leadership has realized that keeping in view the prevailing anger among people imposition of property tax would prove counterproductive for the party in future so some corporators were asked to oppose this move as ‘face saving’. “BJP leadership has asked some corporators to oppose property tax just to give an impression to the people that the party had opposed the move”, sources said and the party has received very discouraging feedback from people against this move.
The UT government has started the process for the imposition of property tax through Urban Local Bodies (Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees). Moreover, the property tax board will be constituted shortly on the recommendations of the Housing and Urban Development Department to deal with all the aspects relating to assessment and valuation of properties across the UT.
Important to mention here that most of the ULBs are controlled by BJP so instead of opposing the same in the media, the party should direct all ULBs of Jammu not to allow imposition of property tax.
