Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 7: With an aim to give fillip to sports culture in government schools and introduce students at national, international level competitions, the Directorate of School Education, Jammu has asked all the Chief Education Officers to find out outstanding players engaged in the department at different posts for 'sports mentoring.' As per the order issued by the Director, School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, the Chief Education Officers across the Jammu Province, have been asked to provide a list of outstanding sports personnel having sports background, engaged in the department.
"You (CEOs) all are hereby directed to kindly provide the list of the outstanding sports personnel having sports background (state/national/international medal holders) working on different posts in the School Education Department as per the format," Ms Gupta said in an order.
However, as per the format, the CEOs have been directed to ascertain details like name of the official, designation, present place of posting, game played, category of medal and mobile number. They have been asked to submit details to the department by March 8. "We have a very good number of sportspersons engaged in the department as fourth class, teachers, masters and lecturers but their services are not being availed in sports promotion," Ms Gupta said. "They got selected under sports quota but they were not being utilised as professional/outstanding sports persons instead engaged in other tasks," said the Director. "We have made a holistic plan on how to groom students in government schools through these sports persons by 'sports mentoring' so that our students also participate in various competitions," she expressed.
Earlier 'academic mentoring' was initiated and now focus is on 'sports mentoring' for polishing the talent in sports in all government schools, Ms Gupta said and added, "after identifying all such outstanding sportspersons, they will be assigned to groom number of students in their professional disciplines for further participations in at least national level competitions to win medals and bring laurels to the Jammu and Kashmir."
