Govt must reduce fuel prices to give relief to common man: Tara Chand
3/7/2021 11:33:42 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 7: Former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand has asked the central government to reduce petrol and diesel prices with immediate effect to give relief to the common man from the unbearable astronomical hikes in petroleum products this year.
He was addressing the Congress workers meeting at Village Laham Kot Maira in Khour Constituency, which was attended by hundreds of Congress worker's. While speaking on the occasion, Tara Chand said that rise in prices of cylinder and petroleum products has hit the poor.
He said it was cruel on the government's part to refuse to reduce fuel prices even when global crude oil prices had crashed last year. The whole principle of deregulation and dynamic pricing is predicated on the principle that reductions in crude oil prices will proportionately benefit the end consumers, he asserted. The fact that BJP government fails to do so implies a deliberate and conscious decision to deny the common man his legitimate due," he said. Why is the BJP igniting the fire of inflation, after taking votes from the people in the name of reducing it ?" he asked.
He said that the fuel price hike has not only hit the traders but also farmers, students, daily wage earners and other sections of the society. Befooling the public into paying high taxes when their hands are already tight because of a slow post-pandemic recovery is a huge problem.
Former Dy CM blaming the BJP for causing misery and distress to people, said that the government has failed to resolve issues in J&K and instead has amplified the number of problems people are facing today. Locals are distraught and agitated over such an apathetic attitude of the government. Levying Property Tax is another misery added to the heaps and piles.
Tarachand reiterated demand of holding early assembly elections in J&K. The Govt of India should understand the ground reality as the people are in distress without an elected government.
Others who attended the meeting include Choudhary Gharu Ram Ex Minister, Narinder Sharma PCC Secretary, Suram Singh (Vice President DCC Rural Jammu) Block President Pargwal, Khour, Samwa and Khara Balli, Jagatar Singh, Jagdish Raj Sharma, Gautam Sharma, Daljeet Singh, Captain Kali Dass, Ashok Sharma, Madan Lal Sharma, Vijay Chib, Varun Magotra, Vishu bhau, Prabhu Singh, Sarpanches, Panchs, and members of Municipal Committee, Block Office bearers and other delegates.
