Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 7: In a bid to gear up national security in this terror-infested region, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have been directed to put drones on “alert state” in the valley and the winter capital.
Sources said following a recent rise in number of terror related cases in Kashmir, the security establishment held a high level meeting in Srinagar with the Inspector General of Police in chair on February 20.
Sources said officials from the Army and the paramilitary were also present. It was unanimously decided that use of drones on regular basis had become vital for hi-tech surveillance.
Sources said in a shocking development it was observed that for the last around six months the police in Kashmir were hardly using drones for surveillance on regular basis.
Sources said it was decided that all police stations will keep squads dedicated for the use of drones, which have already been procured by the department.
Sources said the use of drones on regular basis has been made “mandatory and that the concerned zonal Superintendents of Police will coordinate with the Station House Officers of the respective Police Stations.”
Sources said given the recent incidents of arrest of some militants from Jammu city it was decided that the “Jammu police will also keep their drones up and on alert.”
“It is not only that drones are needed to keep an eye during a VIP movement or in the wake of terror strike, drones can give live updates of daily activity from localities without minimal personal intervention of the police force and that is what is needed,” said an official on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the use of “4K video quality drones” has been made mandatory and that footage would be stored in the centralized databases for future reference.
