Farmers' awareness programme held at Batote | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 23: A farmers' awareness programme was today organized by the Department of Horticulture at Batote which witnessed the participation of about 100 farmers. Director Horticulture Jammu, Ram Savak chaired the camp and advised the farmers to follow new techniques of plantation and avail the High density Plantation scheme. He said new high yielding varieties on specialized root stock have the potential to yield 50 to 60 tonnes per hectare against the present production 10-11 tonnes of Apple per hectare which shall raise their standard of living. He also elaborated various departmental schemes and advised the farmers to avail maximum benefits from the ongoing departmental schemes like MIDH, CAPEX, PMKSY, SMAM etc. Sudhir Chadha of Agro Dutch Company deliberated in detail about the various techniques used in the High Density Plantation and gave practical training to the participants regarding installation of trellis system, micro-irrigation system etc. The Camp was also attended by member of District Development Council Jagvir Dass, sarpanches and panches of different panchyats. Several issues and demands were raised by the farmers which were redressed by the director on the spot. Chief Horticulture Officer Ramban, V.K. Gupta; Chief consultant NAFED, Surinder Koul; DLSMS, Pardeep Gupta and other officers were also present at the camp. |
