GDC Jindrah conducts 3-day workshop, observes martyrs day | | | Early Times Report
Jindrah , Mar 23: Three-day workshop on the theme, “Environmental Awareness”, organised by the NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Jindrah in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences, concluded here on Tuesday. The NSS volunteers also observed martyrs day on the concluding day of the workshop and paid tributes to the freedom fighters who had lost their lives in the struggle for India's independence. The martyrs day was celebrated under ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’—a series of events organised by the Government of India to commemorate 75th anniversary of Independence. The three-day events were held under the able guidance of the GDC Jindrah Principal, Professor Rajshree Dhar. On the first day of the workshop, the NSS volunteers celebrated ‘World Sparrow Day’ to raise awareness about the bird. On the occasion, the volunteers distributed nest boxes and water pots to the people in view of upcoming summers to save house sparrows from scorching heat. On the second day, the NSS volunteers celebrated World Forest day with enthusiasm. They also conducted a plantation drive in the area and urged the local people to plant more trees for preserving green cover and protecting the environment. On World Water Day , the Head of Department (HoD), Environmental Sciences, Professor Deepika Sharma delivered a lecture on the theme ‘Catch the Rain Water’ and threw light on the various measures to preserve water resources. The series of events were well coordinated by Sunil Dutt Sharma, programme officer, NSS Unit, GDC Jindrah. |
