DC Udhampur appeals stakeholders to promote ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign

UDHAMPUR, Mar 26: Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Indu Kanwal Chib today appealed to all the stakeholders to contribute vehemently towards promotion of Catch the Rain’ Campaign to increase the water table in the district. Speaking to media persons at the launch of the campaign, the DC said that District Udhampur has huge scope for Rainwater harvesting with an average 1400 mm rain in a year. Refereeing to the contest launched for seeking ideas on conservation of rain water and using it for different activities judiciously, she said that administration has received an overwhelming public response from across the district with 350 entries. The DC said that the main objective of launching this campaign was to generate massive awareness among the masses to save every drop of water. She listed several steps being taken by the District Administration for successful implementation of the campaign through public participation. She said that the Prime Minister of India gave a clarion call to “Catch the Rain, where it falls, when it falls” under Jal Shakti Abiyaan on World Water Day. Under this campaign, the DC said that the District Administration Udhampur has taken several steps. She appealed the public of District Udhampur to join hands with District Administration for successful implementation of this campaign on the ground. The DC appealed to masses to help in saving water in all possible ways and developing water saving habits. She stressed on the need to promote Rain water harvesting at massive level through Roof Top Rain Water Harvesting, digging percolation pits, constructing check dams, diversion drains to conserve the rain water for subsequent use in different activities.
Meanwhile, the DC constituted a panel comprising ADDC, Ashok Kumar; Chief Planning Officer, Rajeev Bhushan; SE , Jal Shakti Department, PP Arora; DIO NIC, Anil Sharma to scrutinize the 350 entries and select the best ideas which could be materialized in different areas in the district.
