Balwant Thakur extols magic of theatre | World Theatre Day Celebrations | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 26: World Theatre Day celebrations begin here at Natrang Studio Theatre with much enthusiasm and fun fare. Opened with a seminar on theatre, the celebrations will continue till 31st of March, 2021 which will follow a festival of acclaimed plays of Natrang featured in its weekly Sunday Theatre. Natrang Director Balwant Thakur who is also the Cultural Diplomat of India while presenting his keynote address in World Theatre Day seminar dwelt in detail the significance of the celebrations of this auspicious day of theatre lovers. Joined by senior actors of Natrang viz Suresh Kumar, Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant and Subash Jamwal Balwant Thakur said that this day is a celebration of those who can see the value and importance of this art form called 'Theatre" and acts as a wakeup call for governments, politicians, and institutions which have not yet recognized its value. We need to take the example from the developed nations where theatre is valued and considered as an important tool of human growth. Arts makes us human and theatre in particular has the magic to transform civilizations. Terming Theatre as the only tool of shaping civilized societies, he stressed on the need of introducing this magnificent art in all the educational institutions. In the developed world, theatre has acquired position and is considered as one of the most sought-after activity of community participation and intellectual development. Giving further details Balwant Thakur said that these celebrations were started in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (UNESCO, Paris) and World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on March 27 by the international theatre community. Various national and international theatre events are organized world over to mark this occasion. Natrang pioneered this tradition of the celebrations of World Theatre Day in the year 1985 in Jammu and organizes this day every year with much of the enthusiasm and fun fare to celebrate the most significant role of theatre in bringing communities together and shaping the societies. The celebrations of this day in Jammu has become even more important for the reason that theatre has given an International identity to this land and the plays produced in Jammu have been acknowledged globally. Balwant Thakur appealed all the lovers of theatre and culture to join Natrang in these celebrations and invited them to witness Natrang plays every evening at 5 pm at Natrang Studio Theatre from March 27, 2021. Others who spoke on the occasion included Suresh Kumar, Neeraj Kant, Anil Tickoo and Subash Jamwal. |
