Authorities playing with lives of people: No dedicated cremation ground for Corona victims
4/8/2021 12:37:54 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 7: Casual approach of the local administration to cremate Corona victims was exposed this afternoon when a virus victim was cremated at Shakti Nagar cremation ground where already cremations of five persons were already going on.
An ambulance from Government Medical College Jammu reached Shakti Nagar cremation ground with body of Corona victim. Amid presence of large number of people, some persons started cremation of Corona victim also.
As soon as people, who were gathered there to attend others cremations, got panicked after getting information that cremation of Corona victim was also going simultaneously with other cremations at same cremation ground.
As per COVID-19 protocol issued by the government from time to time, authorities have to identify a dedicated cremation ground for the victims so as to check spread of the deadly virus.
During the second wave of Coronavirus, deaths due to virus are also going unabated. On Wednesday only six persons-four from Jammu and two from Kashmir Valley, have lost their lives due to deadly virus.
As reported earlier by this newspaper, district administration has yet not identified a dedicated site to cremate victims of this deadly virus.
It was all due to failure of the administration to identify a proper cremation ground that two persons, who were nephews of a COVID victim, had lost their lives. COVID pandemic broke-out in Jammu in the month of May 2020 and authorities have yet not identified any specific place for cremation of such victims. On June 2, 2020 a mob had disrupted the cremation of a 72-year-old Covid-19 victim, while another in Domana had compelled a family to take the half-burnt body of their relative off the pyre. He was then cremated at Belicharana on the bank of the river Tawi.
Earlier some people including one elected representative had opposed cremation of a COVID patient at Jogi Gate cremation.
