Orientation programme on Forest Rights Act, 2006 held at Ramban

RAMBAN, Apr 8: District Level Committee (DLC), Ramban for Forest Rights Act, 2006, today organised a capacity building programme for the officials and PRI members, here at Conference Hall, Maitra.
Chairperson, District Development Council, Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan, presided over the training session which was attended by the Vice- Chairperson, Rabia Beig, BDC, Chairpersons, DDC Members, BDOs and Range officer from forest Department.
While discussing the modalities for effective implementation of provisions of Forest Rights Act, 2006, the Chairperson directed the Forest Department to provide adequate training and knowledge to grassroots level functionaries of concerned departments to execute the provisions.
She also asked the Forest Department to intensify afforestation to enhance green cover, besides protecting the existing forests by fencing, developing forest nurseries and closures across the district.
The Chairperson urged the members of all three tiers of Panchyati Raj institution to sensitize the people about the opportunity which is being provided to Forest dwellers by the government.
Divisional Forest Officer, Ramban, Dr Rajan Singh, who is also Nodal Officer for organizing training, gave a detailed powerpoint presentation on the provisions of the Act and sensitized the participant about prescribed measures for its implementation, besides briefing the District Level Committee about extent rule of Forest Rights Act, 2006.
The trainees were also briefed in detail about the salient features of the Act and the rules including the preamble, the forest dwelling communities, the constitution and functions of the 3-tier system of committees at the district, Sub-divisional and Gram Panchayat level and the procedure to be followed for inviting, acknowledging and processing the claims under the Act. The doubts were also cleared during the training session.
