Students aghast over denial of student's concession in fare
Allege misbehaviour by matador drivers, conductors
4/9/2021 12:33:29 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 8: The students who board matadors of different routes in the outskirts of the Jammu city to reach their respective educational institutions are up in arms against denial of concession in fare.
They rued the dictatorial attitude of drivers and conductors who charged exorbitant fares from the students despite repeated requests to charge as per the fare fixed for the "student category".
But it has become order of the day that students face mental agony and trauma at the hands of these matador drivers and conductors who refused to budge and charge the excessive fare by throwing the rate list issued by the RTO Jammu into the dustbin.
A group of angry students told the Early Times that these matador drivers and conductors have made their lives miserable as even though they show the mandatory identity cards they don't pay any heed to their repeated pleas and enter into verbal duel with them without any fear of law, adding that the transport department who otherwise boasts claims of tighten noose on these matador drivers and conductors in checking the rate list fixed by the department too falls flat.
A student took a dig at transport department for utter failure to check the malpractice of these matadors.
"They say that we will not charge student fare, whatever you do but you have to pay the same fare paid by others. This attitude leaves all of us high and dry and we have no other option other than to board these matadors in order to reach our respective institutions," the angry student regretted.
Turning tables against the RTO Jammu for his apathetic and indifferent attitude towards their plight, students said that they left to fend for themselves as if there is no Transport department and these unscrupulous matadors and conductors seems to have given free hand to charge excessive fare from them.
Students threaten to take to streets if the Transport department not directed these matador drivers and conductors to charge students' fare from them.
