Hot weather continues, some relief expected today in J&K

Srinagar, June 10: There was no change in the heat-wave conditions on Thursday in the Kashmir valley, where some relief is expected due to isolated lightening and thunderstorm on Friday.
Meanwhile, several districts have decided to ban bathing in the rivers to beat the heat following a number of drowning incident, particularly in the central and north Kashmir during the past about a week.
The summer capital of Srinagar recorded 34.7 degree maximum temperature for the second consecutive day today which was hottest so far.
A Met department spokesman said this evening that mercury remained above normal in the Kashmir valley due to heatwave conditions at isolated places today.
However, he said, there is possibility of isolated lightening and thunderstorm with 30 km to 40 km gusty winds during the next 72 hours in the Kashmir valley which could bring some relief from the heat wave conditions.
He said there was no change in the weather condition in Srinagar where the maximum temperature remained 34.7 degree, which was 6.7 notches above normal. This was the hottest temperature in Srinagar this summer so far, he added. The minimum temperature was19.2 degree, 4.9 degree above normal. He said sky would be mainly clear to generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 33 degree and 19 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
Snow accumulated on upper reaches in the Kashmir valley, including in famed ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam, has started melting due to over six degree above normal maximum temperature.
At Gulmarg in north Kashmir the maximum temperature was 25.5 degree, 6.8 notches above normal while the minimum temperature was 13.6 which was 4.8 degree above normal.
The maximum and minimum temperature at Pahalgam in south Kashmir was 30.2 degree (6.3 degree above normal) and 11.3 degree (3.1 degree above normal) respectively.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the maximum temperature was 34.3 degree, 7.8 degree above normal while Kokernag recorded 32.2 degree, 6.3 notches above normal while the minimum temperature was 17.8 degree which was 5.7 notches above normal.
Kupwara in north Kashmir the maximum temperature was 35.1 degree, 6.9 degree above normal while the minimum temperature was 15.7 degree which was 3.1 degree above normal.
