Activities at GDC Vijaypur to mark “World blood donor day” | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jun 15: World Blood Donor Day is observed every year on June 14 worldwide and serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary life saving gifts of blood as donating blood is the greatest thing one can do in his /her life because it gives a new life to another person struggling with his/her life .Blood donation is not only a service to humanity, it is also good for our health and does not have any side effect on the body. For people who donate blood regularly ,the chances of getting heart diseases and high blood pressure are greatly reduce and also helps in countering the problem of obesity. With the aim to create the wider public awareness of the need for regular unpaid blood donation, to promote community values of blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and social cohesion, to encourage youth to embrace the humanitarian call to donate blood and inspire others to do the same, GDC Vijaypur organized quiz and slogan writing competitions online in which students from various Colleges and Universities across the nation participated enthusiastically with great zeal and fervor. In the quiz competition ,first position was secured by Poonam Sharma of Stephens College of Nursing while second and third position were bagged by Jyoti Devi and Ashish of GDC Vijaypur .The top ten contestants of slogan writing competition were Abdul Haliq of GDC Surankot, Samyam Kumar of IITM Haryana, Shuvam Mankotia of GDC Billawar, Neeraj Kumar of GDC Vijaypur, Rajiv Kumar Reddy of Ramaiya University of Applied Sciences Bangalore, Ashish Chouhan of DCRUST University (Delhi NCR), Pallavi of GCW Gandhinagar, Smita Giri of GK Gokhale College Kohlapur, Manreen Kour of GDC Vijaypur and Pooja Kumari of LPU Jalandhar. Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College urged the students to give blood and keep the world beating in this crucial time as blood banks are running short of blood as regular donors have stopped coming to donate blood in view of the COVID-19 Pandemic and said that “each unit of blood help save three precious lives and one can donate blood four times in year”.The event coordinated and adjudicators of the activities were Prof. Kuldeep Singh, Prof. Anil Bhagat and Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch. |
