GMC Jammu organises lecture on International Yoga Day

REASI, June 19: JAMMU, JUNE 19: Government Medical College Jammu organised a Lecture on “Post- COVID management of stress by adopting yogic way of life” to mark International Yoga Day which is being celebrated on 21st June every year.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. T.R Raina, former Prof. and Head, Blood Bank GMC Jammu for the Faculty, Paramedical and other staff of GMC & AH.
He said that the importance of spreading the knowledge of Yoga has more relevance due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. He highlighted the benefits of practicing Yoga to individuals in everyday life. He gave a brief presentation on How Yoga Works, Yogic Management of Lifestyle related diseases, Breath & Lifestyle Modifications, benefits of breathing with awareness. He apprised the audiences about the 7 types of Ashtanga Yoga including Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyana and Samadhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean GMCH said that Yoga is for a healthy mind and body and it embodies unity of mind with body. It is the sense of oneness within ourselves. It is a holistic approach to healthy being.
Various exercises to refresh the mind were also practiced. HoD’s from various Departments, Faculty members, Officers, Doctors, Nursing and Paramedical Staff were present on the occasion.
