Residents collect rainwater from roof drainage pipe for consumption
“Har Ghar Jal” slogan falls flat in Rajouri village

Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 6: It seems shocking but it is true that residents of the Panchayat Kothian of block Kalakote of this district have been compelled to consume rain water collected from the roof top while defeating government’s slogan of “Har Ghar Jal” since there is no PHE water supply line in this area.
Sources informed that there is only bore well in this Panchayat and that too caters to the needs of few households while rest of the residents remain without water supply and had to wait for rain to meet their water needs.
The Jal Shakti Department has been overlooking the issue of this area. “We collect water in containers by putting them under roof drainage pipes and use it for their daily needs. We are totally dependent on rain so we might collect water. There is acute water scarcity in this area as we don’t have any sustainable water source. Even the department has failed to take note of our problem despite giving them a number of the requests,” the residents said.
They further alleged that the Modi Government slogan “Har Ghar Jal” has absolutely fallen flat in this area putting people in great distress. The women folk of this panchayat are the most affected lot, who had to travel a long distance to fetch potable water. This panchayat of around 3500-4000 souls is deprived of this basic amenity which is the fundamental right of every citizen of this country.
Not only this, even the concerned Medical Sub Center and school in this area are without water supply, which have hampered their functioning. Despite repeated calls the concerned official didn’t pick up the phone.
