Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 29: A Jammu based criminologist, Priya Varma Khajuria felt elated for her suggestions found resonance from none other than the Lieutenant Governor himself during the recently concluded episode of 'Awam ki Awaz'.
Priya Verma had suggested to the LG about the scope and need of having expert criminologists for speedy and better investigation of IT related crimes and her suggestions were well received by the LG and reverberated during the monthly outreach 'Awam ki Awaz' program.
Priya Verma introduces herself as an online security consultant providing services to people. She also says that she can give advice to people about dealing with online harassment and frauds. She further talks of being able to teaching and conducting workshops for creating awareness about the advantages and benefits of studying criminology.
She has number of suggestions which has been duly recognized by the LG himself that has emboldened her to pursue her dream confidently.
She admits that lack of awareness of the field makes it difficult for people to fathom the actual need of studying this subject here in J&K. She suggests that once its benefits and niceties are put before people they gauge its importance in present circumstances.
Priya Verma has suggested that criminology could be introduced as a subject at the graduation level as it has interlinks with various related subjects like Psychology, Human Behaviour, Police, Law and Order etc. She adds that in the age of online thefts, internet based frauds the field of "IT security consultancy" has enhanced importance. She has suggested for provision of special scholarships to students who wish to study the subject from reputed universities here in the country. She exudes confidence that it could provide qualified instructors and tutors to our law enforcing agencies who had penchant need of such professionals.
Priya Verma couldn't hide her excitement that her suggestions had been welcomed at the highest echelons of power. She confides she is hopeful that such a recognition is destined to encourage others to take active part in the developmental process initiated by the government here in J&K.
