Kishtwar cloudburst: 19 missing persons feared dead

Kishtwar, July 29: Even after 48 hours since the tragedy struck the remote Honzar village of Dachhan in Kishtwar District, the fate of 19 missing persons is unknown. All of them are feared dead, seven bodies were recovered on Wednesday.
As per the details available with Early Times, the rescue operation in the cloudburst hit area resumed this morning. The rescue operation is being carried under the supervision of SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Bhat and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Kishori Lal Sharma, senior officials including ADGP Mukesh Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ragav Langher, DIG DKR Udhay Basket Billa, DC Kishtwar Ashok Kumar Sharma reached the spot along with relief material today and took the stock of the situation.
The IAF chopper managed two air sorties today after the weather improved. The choppers dropped airlifted the rescue teams and dropped relief material, but due to bad weather, 3rd air sortie was suspended.
Locals told Early Times that they have lost everything and they don’t even have clothes to wear, adding that they are living in an adjacent village.
They said that there is immediate need of ration, tents, clothes, utensils and other essential items. “The administration should carryout a detailed survey of the area to ascertain the fresh threat,” they added.
Dachhan area lacks proper roads and proper communication network due to which they remain cut off from rest of the country. Residents accuse former political regimes of ignoring the area.
