Honzar cloudburst: NDRF, SDRF teams join rescue operations

Kishtwar, July 31: The search operation in remote Honzar village of Dachhan in Kishtwar District hit by the cloudburst during the intervening night of 27/28 July continued for fourth running day with SDRF and NDRF teams joining the Jammu and Kashmir police, Army and civil administration.
As per the details available with with Early Times, the government rushed the sniffer dog squad to the cloudburst hit area.
The officials told the Early Times that despite hostile weather conditions, the search for the missing persons who are presumed to be dead is still continuing and the operation will be called off only after proper assessment of the situation.
Speaking at a Press Conference, DC Kishtwar said that the details of the losses are being finalised added that the relief process has been expedite. He said that the prime responsibility was to provide ration to the affected families along with the other essential commodities. He said that community kitchen has already been in service at the Honzar village and said that SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Bhat is still camping at the site and is monitoring and coordinating the whole rescue and relief operation. DC Kishtwar also gives detailed account of the losses suffered by the people in terms of live stock, agriculture land and other damages. He said that the efforts are being made to restore the electricity and water supply in the area. He also give detail account of damages suffered to the property and infrastructure at Kiyar village in Dachhan, Padder and Bhunzwah. He said that the cases for disbursement of compensation as per the norms has been put on fast track. In a question on legality to declare the 19 missing persons as dead, DC Kishtwar said that it is mandatory to wait for 21 days before any decision could be taken in this regard. He said that they will take up the matter with law department with regard to treating the missing persons as dead.
He assured that the kith and kins of the deceased would not have to line up for release of compensation at his office complex added that the compensation will be directly credited into the victim’s account.
In a question on NGOs keen to provide help to the affected families and seeks administration help to reach out to them, DC Kishtwar said that administration will provide whatever possible help to the NGOs intended to provide any help to the victims of Honzar cloudburst.
