Defunct CT scan machine, lack of facilities at Kishtwar hospital leave patients in lurch

Kishtwar, July 31: Ajaz Ahmed Waza who lost his seven family members in Honzar cloudburst incident on July 27 is battling for life.
According to the details available with Early Times, Ajaz was rescued by locals and rushed to the hospital. Due to non availability of medicare facilities and defunct CT Scan machine in the Kishtwar District Hospital, he was rushed to Jammu. “After being pulled out from the debris Ajaz was first shifted on foot by the locals to Primary Health Center Dachhan, nearly 15 kms from the cloudburst site. From there he was moved to District Hospital Kishtwar on 28th late evening,” locals said.
They said that Ajaz didn’t get proper medicare in Kishtwar Hospital. The CT scan machine has been lying defunct in the hospital for the past one month. Doctors at Kishtwar hospital advised family members of Ajaz to shift him to Doda or Jammu for CT Scan or to Srinagar for better health care,” locals said.
Elder brother of Ajaz, Ghulam Ahmad Waza whose wife and sister in law are still missing, said, “We were left with nothing despite that we were told to shift our brother. Doctors were aware that we have no money and are in no position to do anything on our own. They just left him unattended.”
Shamima Begum, Ajaz’s cousin said that they were not treated properly in the hospital must help them along with local administration and general public so that they could arrange better treatment for her injured brother.
Both Ajaz and his family had left unattended and were left at the mercy of the God.
Surprisingly District hospital Kishtwar had only one wheelchair and the relatives of the injured Ajaiz said that it took hours to find the wheelchair to take him for toilet since Ajaz wasn’t able to walk.
After suffering for the past two days, Ajaz Ahmed Waza was shifted to Jammu late Friday evening.
Accompanied by few local relatives from Kishtwar, Ajaiz family is at the brink of distress since on one side they are worried about his worsening condition and at the same time their heart is beating for the loved ones who are missing since the tragedy hit the Honzar village and there is no trace of missing persons even after 72 hours of the it.
