Cultural Academy Doda non-functional since long
8/18/2021 10:30:48 PM

earLY tIMES rEPORT

Kishtwar, Aug 18: Dedicated to the promotion of regional languages, art and culture, including theatre in Jammu and Kashmir the Cultural Academy Doda has never been seen on the ground in Doda district for a long time.
According to reports, there was a time when cultural programs like Mushairas etc. for promoting local culture and languages were organised in Bhaderwah, Thathri, Bhalessa etc., till 2010 approximately, but slowly these programs were limited to District Headquarters Doda only. And currently, this department is there only in name and documents. They never visit any part of the district. Even Doda district have two major languages Sarazi and Bhaderwahi, but they never recognise these languages and their dialects.
Various social and cultural organisations started movements for the preservation of languages and cultures. In addition, Thatri based local web portal “The Chenab Times” also initiated a daily news headline program in the Sarazi and Bhaderwahi languages with additional support for the Urdu language on 21 January 2021. Some officials and organisations hailed the initiative. The program is broadcast daily on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.
However, departments like the Cultural Academy can help these initiatives officially just a bit, as the majority of the work is already being done. Unfortunately, this department is not even in the memory of people now.
It is seen on the eve of Independence Day or Republic Day for just musical events, which are limited to Doda city only with some selected poets, ignoring all the new talent in the region. This department of elites is never seen working for what it is meant to do. It has never made any true efforts to uplift the culture and art of the Doda district. Instead of doing a program for promoting language and culture, this department in Doda is not even known to government officials here. When they hear it, they get surprised and say 'Did it exist here?'.
The multilingual headlines initiative to promote local languages like Sarazi and Bhaderwahi is the first time in history that news is being demonstrated in these languages.
The initiative got lots of appreciation from reputed personalities and officials of the region, including Deputy Commissioner Doda Vikas Sharma (KAS) after a meeting with the team on 6th August, 2021, DC Doda assured possible support for this initiative and directed ADC Doda Dr. R.K Bharti to include this in a committee.
The committee was constituted on the 17th of June, this year, in the report which is being compiled on the topic of promotion, development and enrichment of Pahari speaking dialects. Despite assurances by DC Doda about CT's initiative, the committee was asked to include this initiative in the report. A special meeting is being called on the 18th of August by ADC Doda under notice no. 349-53/PA/ADC/D/2021 dated 16-08-2021. But not a single member of the Chenab Times is invited to that meeting.
