Pleasant weather continues, night temperature below normal in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Aug 30: Pleasant weather continued on Monday though sky became cloudy in the evening in the Kashmir valley, where the minimum temperature was over one degree to three degree below normal.
There could be isolated rain or thundershowers over Jammu and Kashmir divisions during the next 24 hours, a Met department spokesman told UNI this evening. He said there could be no major change in the weather during the subsequent two days.
It was yet pleasant day as maximum temperature was near normal in the valley though minimum temperature was below normal. Srinagar, one of the capital cities of Union Territory (UT), where authorities finalized to host the 4th Parliamentary Outreach Programme on Tuesday, the weather was pleasant as the maximum temperature was 29.2 degree which is normal. However, the minimum temperature was 13.5 degree, which was 2.2 notches below normal.
Met spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy to very light rain and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28, a notch below normal and 13 degree, slightly below normal respectively during the next 24 hours.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, the maximum temperature today was 19.4 degree, 0.8 degree below normal. It was lowest day temperature in the valley. The minimum temperature was 9 degree, which was 1.7 degree below normal, much to the delight to tourists who had come from plains where the mercury remained high.
Famed health resort of Pahalgam, where Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla met Panchayat representatives, the day temperature was 25.5 degree which was 0.6 degree above normal. The water level in river Lidder passing through Pahalgam has also witnessed increase due to melting of snow in the upper reaches. However, the minimum temperature was 7.7 degree, 3.3 notches below normal. Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 29.5 degree (2.1 degree above normal) and 10.7 degree (3 degree below normal) respectively.
The maximum temperature at Kupwara was 29.8 degree and minimum12.8 degree while Kokernag in south Kashmir the maximum and minimum temperatures were 27.4 degree and 12.8 degree (both below normal) respectively.
