Students can become guiding force
9/14/2021 10:47:33 PM
After reopening universities and colleges, the government is mulling to get students back to schools. The Covid guidelines have been revised and physical classes have resumed for the students of class 10th and 12th with the 50% attendance on a given day. The COVID-19 didn’t spare anyone and affected each and every sector. The education sector was the worst hit as the schools and colleges remained closed nearly for two years. Higher education institutions have reopened but schools are yet to restart functioning.
The COVID-19 numbers are declining compared to peak in April and May this year. The State Executive Committee (SEC) while ordering the reopening of higher educational institutes directed in-person teaching subject to 100% vaccination of staff and students and specific permission of concerned Deputy Commissioners.
After the SEC ordered reopening of the educational institutions the Health Department set up vaccination centers within the premises of colleges and varsities. This step has helped in getting students and staff vaccinated.
The reopening of the higher education institutions has come as a relief to students who missed class environment to study. The online teaching system proved all but inadequate and not enough to replace the in-class atmosphere.
Students have returned to universities and colleges but there is need for strict adherence to the protocols on the ground without fail. The managements of colleges and universities should keep thermal scanners, sanitizers available and ensure the wearing of face masks by students and staff. Following the Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) holds the key. Our past experiences have taught us that the virus is very contagious and it can spread rapidly. Taking precautions is must to keep the Covid at bay.
Even after two years no specific cure has been found, so people have to ensure that they take precautions to remain safe.
In Jammu and Kashmir along with other parts of the country, a sizable population seems to have been exposed to the virus, as indicated by seropositivity surveys at several places. But the spate of infections in some parts of the country underscores the value of the precautionary principles.
Students have returned to colleges and universities but they need to remember how difficult the last two years have been. They have to lead from the front and set an example so that others follow in their footsteps. Their activity needs to be guided by caution. Use of face masks and healthy distancing is the need of hour. The good classroom ventilation and open-air instruction wherever feasible are also important along with adherence to CAB.
