JAMMU, Sept 21: The Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu organized the first workshop of the series on Gender Sensitization under 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav Celebration' for the PG students of Department of Education, University of Jammu.
Prof. Vibhuti Patel, former Prof. Advanced Centre for Women's Studies, TISS and SNDT Women's University Mumbai was the resource person. The workshop began with the welcome address by Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women's Studies, University of Jammu. Prof. Patel, the key speaker for the workshop traced the emergence of the various reform movements which helped in liberating women and to bring equality among the sexes.
She explained the objectives of gender sensitization in detail and highlighted the limiting factors for the participation of women in the developmental process and suggested various ways to overcome these barriers. She also gave details about WID, WAD and GAD approaches and also insights about the HDI status of India. Further, she deliberated on Millennium Developmental Goals and Sustainable Developmental Goals for Gender equality.
