Scrapping of Darbar move deprives Jammu house owners of rental income
10/7/2021 12:02:11 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 6: Many house owners who used to give out their dwellings on rent to people from Kashmir in October every year after Darbar Move, have been left to fend on their own this year as the government has scrapped the 149-year old practice.
A house owner while talking to Early Times said, “Many people like me used to rent out their houses to tenants for the 6-months and it used to be a major source of income. But from this year we will be deprived of our incomes. At many places people coming with Darbar Move used to keep the houses in their possession for the entire year and people used to get the rent all for the whole year.”
He said, “The scrapping of Darbar Move practice has hit the people of Jammu hard and has broken their backs. It’s not only the house owners, who have been hit.
The decision to call off the age old practice has also hit the local businessmen in Jammu region. Kashmiris used to come here and stay and make purchases. Money used to flow in the markets. But from this year onwards money flow in markets will decrease. Revoking Darbar Move practice is an arbitrary decision and the government needs to reconsider.”
