RAMNAGAR, Oct 8: To conserve the natural sources of water as a part of Clean India Movement, NSS unit under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mohatsav” Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar organized a day long campaign. The objective of this campaign was to clean the natural water resources (bowli) in the prominent market area of Ramnagar town.
Bowli is a natural ground water reservoir for locals filled by natural springs in the region, also known as “stepwells”. There are various religious and cultural sentiment attached with the bowli.
Bowlis is also used for drinking and domestic purpose. However, due to accumulation of waste surrounding the bowli, its usage has started to decline in recent years.
An initiative has been taken by NSS volunteers towards cleaning the waste surrounding the stepwells so that it can be properly utilize for future use. The entire activities were carried by wearing mask, gloves and use of sanitizers.
The waste materials or garbage were thrown in the dustbin and the entire area was cleaned by the fresh water.
All the water clogging was also effectively removed. The boundaries of the bowli were scrubbed with the piece of cloth and washed properly.
The campaign was organized under the guidance and direction of Dr Udhey Bhanu, Principal, GDC Ramnagar.
The entire campaign was made successful by the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav team- Prof Ritika Mahajan (NSS PO/Convenor), Prof Neetu Sharma (Asst Prof Dogri), Prof Divya Puri (Asst Prof Psychology) and Dr Rashmi Gupta (Asst Prof Physics).
