| GGM Science College organizes webinar in connection with World Mental Health week | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 9: Psychological Counseling Cell GGM Science College, Jammu organized one day online webinar on the theme “Stress Management: Sort it out before it gets toxic” under the patronage of Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo.
Dr. Shakha Sharma, Convener, Psychological Counseling Cell formally welcomed the resource person Dr Sarita Sood , Assistant Professor in Psychology, University of Jammu, students and faculties from different schools and colleges of J&K. The resource person said that stress and anxiety hinder academic success more than any other non-academic factors. She emphasized that mental health is one of the most neglected areas of public health. “Factors such as significant life changes, politics, family, academic pressure, relationship issues, and money can all contribute to changes in mental health. Social stigma, discrimination, and human right abuses of people with mental health conditions further precipitate the situation of mental health disorders,” said Dr. Sarita. It is pertinent to mention here that this webinar was a part of weeklong events that the College is celebrating prior to World Mental Health Day observed internationally on October 10 every year. The Principal insisted that everyone should participate in such events as individuals to take concrete actions in support of one’s own mental health and to support friends and family who are struggling hard with mental stress. |
