GCW Parade organizes international webinar on World Mental Health Day

JAMMU, Oct 9: Government College for Women (GCW) Parade in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra Jammu; GDC Chenani, GDC Basohli and GDC Kakryal organized International webinar to observe ‘Fit India’-Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav and World Mental Health Day on the theme-‘Holistic Health’.The aim of this mega event was to bring students, staff and community at large on a common platform to make them aware about healthy and fulfilling life.
The mega event had commenced on October 4 and concluded today. Dr Rajinder Kumar, Psychiatrist, GMC Jammu, Dr TR Raina, former Professor & Head Dept of Blood Transfusion, GMC, Jammu, Dr Mohd Muzafer Khan, Founding member and Director Police Drug De-addiction Services, Srinagar, Dr Ziba Vaghri, Associate Professor, University of New Brunswick, Canada, Dr Arun Gupta, Medical Officer, AYUSH, BAMS were eminent speakers who shared the screen and threw light on various aspects of good health and ways to manage psychological and physical wellbeing. Some important topics that were covered in the virtual meet were –Attitude and stigma towards mental health, Science of Yoga and stress management, Substance dependence and its impact on health and wellbeing, Early Child developmental and its role in health, Nutrition and mental health and panel discussion on Holistic Health. Principals of the host colleges Dr SP Sarswat, GCW Parade; Dr CK Khajuria GDC Kakryal; Dr Nidhi Kotwal GDC Basohli; Dr Pragya Khanna GDC Chenani and Dr Monika Sharma GDC Sidhra also emphasized upon the importance of healthy lifestyle for students in specific and community in general which is often being neglected due to busy work schedule of everyday life and specially a matter of concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also appreciated the organizers of the programme Prof SK Dhar, Coordinator and members IQAC GCW Parade Ground, NSS volunteers & NCC cadets of the five colleges, coordinators of the mega-event-Dr Piyali Arora, Dr Sunil Tanoch, Dr Shiv Mangal and Dr Punam from the five colleges and technical support team Antriksh Sehgal and Pranav Sharma. The event concluded with Inter-College poster-cum-slogan writing competition wherein Yash Paul Dogra and Sonia Katach of GDC Chenani bagged 1st and 2nd position respectively and Shallu Chalotra and Rachna of GDC Kakryal and Sania & Anshitga Sharma of GCW Parade conjointly won the 3rd position. The event was followed by rally by NCC cadets and NSS volunteers and exhibition of posters to generate awareness on Mind-Body Fitness in the community.
