| Won't attend duties unless Govt assures security: GPC | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 9: Asserting that they would not leave Kashmir, the Gurudawara Prabandak Committee (GPC) Srinagar on Saturday said that the Sikh employees won't attend their duties unless the government assures their security and protection in the valley.
"We are living in fear after a lady school principal was killed inside a school. All the employees from our community are frightened now. Unless the government assures them of their security and protection, they won't attend to their duties," General Secretary of GPC Navtej Singh said at a press conference in Srinagar.
He said they have reservations about the government order which has offered leave to the employees belonging to the Kashmiri Pandit migrant community for some days after the recent killings.
"The government should adopt one yardstick. Both Supinder Kaur and Deepak Chand were killed at the school. When the government offered leave to migrant Pandits, why have we as a minority been ignored?" Singh asked
General Secretary Singh said though the majority community shared their grief, they were hurt that no one participated in the protest that was held on Friday from the residence of Supinder Kaur to Srinagar's civil secretariat demanding swift action against those involved in the killing.
"It would have been better if the majority community has also participated in yesterday's protest," Singh said.
Dr Joginder Singh Shan, secretary state Minority Affairs of the PDP said that Sikhs would not migrate from Kashmir.
"We are residents of this place.. We will not leave Kashmir come what may. We will live with the people of the majority community." |
