Tawi Trekkers to start winter activities on Oct 16

JAMMU, Oct 10: Tawi Trekkers J&K, Jammu, one of the biggest trekking clubs in the country, shall start its winter activities with a short trek in the Jungle Gali-Saroli meadow area in Udhampur district on 16th October, 2021. It was decided in a meeting of the Club held at Press Club of Jammu under the chairmanship of Patron of the Club Ashwani Sharma, former MLA.
The group of about 10 trekkers shall be led by the Joint Secretary of the club Sakshi Magotra, a trained mountaineer and shall include 76 years old Prof Lalit Magotra, a founder member and now an Advisor of the Club; 72 years old President of the Club Ram Khajuria, Principal of Oriental Academy Sr. Sec. School, Vivek Chauhan (60 years), Co-Chairman of the Club Zorawar Singh Jamwal (45 years) besides a sports journalist Sanjeev Sharma (49 years), Sumit Khajuria, Sushil Singh and Sonam Sidharth, Vice President, Treasurer and an executive member of Mountaineering Association of J&K respectively. Ashwani Sharma, patron of the Club shall also accompany the trekkers.
Highlighting the activities to be undertaken by the club during winter season keeping in view the changed circumstances because of the impact of Covid-19, President of the Club Ram Khajuria mentioned that now the club shall focus only on one-two days treks in the Purmandal, Mahore Garh, Bhupner Garh, Dher Garh, Mansar and Surinsar areas for making these rugged areas a winter hub of soft adventure activities like adventure camps/ picnics and short heritage treks even for the families.
The Club has also planned to undertake a 2-days parikrama of Vaishno Devi shrine and a long walk from Nagrota to Katra on the original Vaishno Devi route during the last week of October besides a winter trekking expedition in the Dalhosie-Chamba area for veteran trekkers only during the first week of November, 2021.
Meanwhile, young organizers of the Club which included Arti Sharma, Sakshi Magotra, Randhir Singh Raipuria, Ashmika Thappa, Pratham Padha and Sanchit who worked tirelessly for the grand success of the function organized by the Club to felicitate 11 Everesters of Jammu with “Duggar Gaurav Adventure Award” were honoured today by the Patron of the Club, Ashwani Sharma.
