Poonch farmers participated in Northern India Regional Agriculture Fair

JAMMU, Oct 11: Poonch farmers who were on the three day visit to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) participated in the Northern India Regional Agriculture Fair, organized by SKUAST-J at Chatha. The farmers were welcomed at Chatha by Dr Ajay Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Poonch, and felicitated them for the participation in this regional fair. While interacting with the farmers, he said, participation in such type of melas actually provides an opportunity to farmers to advance and improve their knowledge regarding diversified and modern farming technologies besides helping them to share their experiences of farming. The farmers were facilitated to visit stalls exhibited by various departments of university and its constituent units and allied sectors of agriculture. Dr Muzafar Mir, Dr SS Jamwal and Dr Mushtaq Guroo accompanied the farmers to visit the various units of University such as Integrated Farming System (IFS), Mushroom production unit, seed processing unit, apiary etc. and interacted with scientific staff there and freely shared their experiences. The farmers enthusiastically witnessed different events of Kisan mela such as Rural sports, dog show, fruit, flower and vegetable stalls many more such activities.
In total, 40 farmers of district Poonch mostly consisting of women farmers participated in the mela. Speaking on the occasion, farmers said that participation in this type of mela has provided them opportunity to interact with members of scientific community as well with those farmers that have earned name and fame in the farming. The visiting farmers thanked the Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch in mobilizing the farming community of district for participation in this type of Kissan Mela.
