Treatment given to terror victims exposes anti-weaker sections mindset of Babus
SC/ST/OBC Confederation vows to expose J&K govt at national level

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 11: The insensitive and inhuman attitude of the J&K government towards two terror victims namely Varinder Paswan of Bihar and Deepak Chand of Jammu has exposed anti-weaker sections mindsets of some ‘Babus’ allegedly infamous for mistreating marginalized sections of the society from time to time.
With the help of some PR companies, the J&K administration tried to give an impression that body terror victim Varinder Paswan, who was a Dalit, was cremated at Srinagar with the consent of his family. But Putul Devi, the helpless wife of poor Dalit Golgappa vendor, has exposed all claims of PR exercise of the J&K and Bihar governments.
Interacting with a national TV channel, Varinder Paswan’s wife said that she wanted to have the last glimpse of her husband but he was cremated at Srinagar. “After getting information that my husband was killed by terrorist I wanted to see his face last time but authorities dashed all my hopes by cremating him (Varinder Paswan) at Srinagar only”, she was seen stating in typical Bhojpuri language.
In the video, Putul Devi was heard saying that she did not agree to cremation to be done in Kashmir. “I asked for the last rites to take place here at home,” she said. She further added that her husband died, and she wanted to see him for one last time, but no one helped. She said that the District Magistrate was lying that the family permitted the cremation in Kashmir.
On October 5, Virendra Paswan, who hailed from Bhagalpur, Bihar, was shot dead in Kashmir by terrorists. His mortal remains were not brought back to Bihar and were cremated in Kashmir itself. Since then, controversy has erupted around his cremation. While the government has said that the family was okay with the cremation in Kashmir, a section of media has been claiming otherwise and said that the family wanted Paswan’s cremation to be held in Bihar and not Kashmir.
The story of Jammu-based terror victim Deepak Chand is slightly different. Deepak Chand Mehra, an OBC teacher was killed by the terrorists on Thursday along with his principal Supinder Kour.
A group of PDP leaders, who visited the bereaved family on Saturday claimed that none from the administration has visited the deceased’s family.
“It is really shocking and inhuman that no senior officer has so far visited the bereaved family to console them at this juncture when they have lost their one of their member due to wrong policies of the J&K government”, Amreek Singh Reen, general secretary of J&K PDP said after visiting residence of Deepak Chand had stated on Saturday.
As reported earlier by this newspaper, Reen alleged that during his interaction with the bereaved family, PDP leaders came to know that the ill-fated family members have arranged body of Deepak Chand from Srinagar on their own. Reen regretted that instead of assisting the family at that crucial time officers decided to maintain a distance.
“The insensitive attitude of authorities has exposed anti-weaker section mindset of the J&K administration. We will take up this issue at the national level to expose this episode”, R K Kalsotra, chairman of J&K unit of the All India SC/ST/OBC confederation. He said that all terror victims should be treated equally.
