BJP leaders stage protest against ‘babu raj” in Srinagar
Admin treating us like political prisoners, not workers; party leaders will go on hunger strike if Govt fails to address secure accommodation issue: Altaf Thakur

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 12: Leaders and activists of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest against bureaucrats outside the Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday.
Raising slogans like “bureaucracy nahin chalaygi” and “bureaucracy murdabad” the BJP leaders led by party’s Kashmir spokesman Altaf Thakur appeared outside the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar this afternoon and staged a sit-in against what they called “treating political leaders like prisoners.”
Talking to reporters Thakur said, “BJP Kashmir unit has staged this protest to bring it to fore that the elected representatives of the party, including panchs, sarapnchs and BDC members, who were putting up in 14 hotels in Srinagar, were asked to vacate and return to their native districts.”
He said, “After they returned to their native places they were not provided with the proper accommodation as the administration has not made any arrangements. At a few places where these people were accommodated, six persons were asked to share one room, where they have no privacy.”
Thakur said, “They have been confined as prisoners, neither are they allowed to go home, nor are their kin allowed to visit them. We want to ask the government, are we political workers or political prisoners”.
The BJP’s Kashmir spokesman said that whenever they call any bureaucrat, he never picks up the phone. “It’s the responsibility of the government to protect the lives of political workers and their families.” On being told that BJP is a ruling party, then why are its leaders and activists staging protest, Thakur said, “In J&K the administration is headed by a Lieutenant Governor. In J&K there is no elected government.” The BJP spokesman said that if the government fails to resolve this issue quickly, all the panchs, sarpanchs and other elected members of the party will go on a hunger strike till this issue is addressed.
