Battle against Covid in final stage

Twenty districts of Jammu and Kashmir have achieved a big milestone as 100% population of all these districts has been provided with the first COVID-19 vaccination dose.
The Covid warriors have done a commendable job by reaching out to far-flung areas and providing adults with the jabs. Initially the Health Department officials faced resistance from the people as they were reluctant to get vaccinated but along with the passage of time, people realized the importance of getting vaccinated.
When the vaccination campaign commenced a notion was created that COVID-19 jabs are not that safe this led to the hesitancy among the people and they just tried to stay away. But along with the passage of time all the rumours proved to be a mere propaganda. Last month experts declared that India has entered into an endemic stage and more than 80% people have developed antibodies to COVID-19. But they insisted that people should follow the SOPs in letter and spirit as the virus can mutate and raise its ugly head again.
It appears that J&K, like other parts of the country, is on its way to defeat the pandemic but the lessons which the COVID-19 has taught us need to be remembered. The outbreak of the pestilence exposed the healthcare system in Jammu and Kashmir. It led to the breakdown of the entire machinery, had the Centre not intervened the causality figures in J&K could have been very high.
During the past one month the cases have declined and people are hoping that life will return to normal soon. Students have been the worst hit as schools have remained closed for almost two-years now. Parents are hoping that their children will return to school soon as things are looking up.
The Health Department celebrating victory over COVID-19 is an indication that the medicos have gauged that the difficult times are over and the virus has lost its sting.
On Friday Jammu recorded only four fresh cases of COVID-19 and it appears that Jammu region is at the brink of defeating the pandemic and very soon the number of new cases will come to zero. People of Jammu need to be lauded for following the guidelines in letter and spirit and adhering to the advisories that were issued to tackle the pandemic.
