Amar Mahal hosts exhibition of Basohli Paintings

JAMMU, Oct 21: Amar Mahal Museum hosted an exhibition and sale of contemporary Pahari miniature paintings. The heritage art form which finds its roots in Basohli area of Jammu region was the theme of the exhibition whose primary artist was Sohan Billawria along with his students, Amit Singh and Vicky.
The exhibition and demonstration of the art work of Sohan Billawria and his students at Amar Mahal Museum was inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh and Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director of Amar Mahal Museum.
The exhibition will remain open to public till October 23. This was the first show from the Guru-Shishya Parampara initiative by the Amar Mahal Museum and Library [Hari Tara Charitable Trust], which was conducted at the studio and residence of Billawria in Basohli.
A photographic record of the students’ progress from March 2020 to October 2021 is also displayed at the exhibition venue. Dr. Jyotsna said that two new students have already started the rigorous training this year and the Hari Tara Charitable Trust is making all efforts to encourage the young artists to continue to learn and improve their skills in order to revive this ancient heritage art form of Jammu region. Also present at the exhibition was former MLC and trustee of Hari Tara Charitable Trust, Vikramaditya Singh.
